SPOTLIGHT ON SALIM WALEED c/o'72 Maple Shade Post Office Post Master

Post Master of the Maple Shade, NJ Post Office for over 11 Years

Salim Waleed has been a staple in the community of Maple Shade for over eleven years. As the Post Master for the Maple Shade Post Office, Salim serves the community with dignity and an abundance of Camden Pride.

Most residence of the South Jersey area recognize the name Salim Waleed, but if you are not among them, Salim was known as Salvatore Ricardo Wilson as a student at Camden High School. Salim legally changed his name in 1974.

A 1972 graduate of Camden High School, Salim’s decision to become an employee of the United States Post office was not necessarily his original plan. Immediately following graduation from Camden High School, Salim enrolled at Rutgers University where he began a quest for a degree in business. Becoming restless with the perils of college life, Salim decided to join the military by becoming a member of the United States Army. He served as a Pharmacy Technician during his tour of duty.
Salim served his country from 1974-1977 and enjoyed the discipline the armed services instilled upon him.

Returning from the Army, Salim resumed his college education at Rutgers University and sought a degree in American History. After graduating from Rutgers University, with honors, Salim launched his career with the United States Post Office. Salim began his postal career as a mail handler gradually elevating to the position of window clerk. A Postal worker can hold this position for many years, but Salim managed to excel in both of the areas early on and his years as a window clerk were short lived. Salim rapidly acquired the supervisor position for the post office through attentiveness and great work effort.

The Supervisor’s position was held by Salim for six years and many postal employees enjoyed working under Salim’s direction. The Branch Manager position would be the next challenge for him to tackle, and of course he managed to do it with great expertise. He served as Branch Manager of East Camden, Audubon, Pennsauken Post Offices over the course of years leading to a promotion to the Assistant Post Master position, Manager of Customer Services, for the entire Camden, NJ Post Office and it’s 315 employees. He was responsible for managing the Retail and Mail Delivery for the townships of Audubon, Oaklyn/Woodlynne, Collingswood, Merchantville, Pennsauken and all of Camden City. Eventually, this opened the door for ascension to his current position as Postmaster, Maple shade, NJ.

Salim has served as Post Master for over eleven years and does a fantastic job as the head of the Maple Shade Post Office. He is a member of the business association of Maple Shade, New Jersey, A member of the Maple Shade Advisory Board and the Maple Shade Rotary Club. Salim oversees 39 employees in all aspects of Postal Production and serves as an example of excellence.

Salim currently resides in Pennsauken, New Jersey with his wife Susan and their two daughters. He also has two adult sons from a previous marriage who are successful in their careers. Salim loves sports, especially basketball, football and tennis.
Salim plans to retire from his position as Post Master at the Post Office in the near future. Salim is seriously considering returning to his almamater with a desire to teach history. The students would be very blessed to have him as an instructor.
